The Alberta Real Estate Associates Program (REAP)
The most important step in becoming a licensed REALTOR® is making sure that you understand all of the steps and costs involved in the process.
So what do I need to do?
In order to become a REALTOR® in Alberta you must first obtain your real estate license and associated authorization to trade in real estate in the province of Alberta. RECA® provides the required pre-licensing education, and you can only become a member of CREB® by completing the pre-licensing education, obtaining your license to trade in real estate, and joining with a CREB® member brokerage. Once you have completed the required pre-licensing education (REAP) and have chosen a brokerage to work with your broker will help you join CREB®. CREB® will give you a complete orientation to make sure you know how to utilize the many tools that are offered to agents.
Step One: Meeting the Initial Eligibility Requirements
Note: RECA considers an Education Eligibility Application form abandoned after 180 days of inactivity. When abandoned, RECA destroys all documents related to the application.
Step Two: Complete Pre-Licensing Education
- Complete the Fundamentals of Real Estate course. This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills that you will require to complete the Practice Courses. RECA recommends that you allow for 9 months to complete the Fundamentals Course material. The cost of this course is $1500.00 plus two exam fees.
- Choose the Areas of Practice Courses that you wish to complete. Your Real Estate Career Path can take you in a variety of directions, and you can choose to become authorized in any or all of the areas of practice below:
Step Three: Provide a Certified Criminal Record Check
You Require a Certified Criminal Record (CCRC)
Step Four: Obtain Employment with a Brokerage
NOTE: it is required that you meet with a brokerage and receive a Brokerage Endorsement Letter around the time of completion of your real estate course. You will need this for your licensing. Fill out the form below to schedule a meeting with our Broker, Cara Morgan.
Step Five: Begin The Licensing and Registration Application
Once you have completed your Education and RECA has your Certified Criminal Record Check, our Broker - Diane Scott - can initiate your licensing and Registration Application. You will need to Provide our Broker with your MyRECA username.
Step Six: Complete the Licensing and Registration Application
Login to MyRECA and follow the directions to complete your application
