    1. Organize / Declutter

    • The tidier your space looks, the more inviting it is!
    • Move or discard items that make rooms look smaller than they are.
    • You know those random items we all have sitting on our counter and dresser? It’s the perfect time to put those away into a drawer, cupboard or closet. Or purge unneeded items!
    • Don’t forget to put away items in the yard such as toys and bikes.

    2. Cleaning

    • This is the most important tip! Buyers want to see that the house has been cared for, and the most obvious way to show that is through cleanliness.
    • Clean the carpets, flooring, kitchen, bathroom, baseboards, furniture, and all countertops/tabletops.
    • Take out the trash on showing day.
    • Cut the grass and clean out the flower beds.
    • If all the cleaning feels like a huge task, hire a cleaning company to help!

    3. Simple Staging

    • The human eye likes symmetry, and simple décor helps with that.
    • Buyers want to imagine what they can do to make the space their own, so no need to worry about adding extra personalized decorating.
    • Some Sellers choose to rent staging furniture if they have empty spaces; this could be an option to discuss with your realtor to decide whether it’s worth the cost.

    4. Light & Smell

    • Open the curtains to draw in natural light and brighten your space.
    • Crack open a window if the weather permits.
    • Place flowers, a scented candle, or a diffuser in the space to add inviting smells. Our sense of smell helps us judge a space as fast as our eyes do.

What are your favorite features/areas of your home? Make sure to spend the most time cleaning and organizing those areas since that’s probably what will attract new buyers too!

Is Re-Painting and Upgrading Worth it?

It’s important to note that other tasks such as re-painting or upgrading specific areas should be discussed with your realtor first. Each home is different, and it may not be worth your time and money if the new potential owners would make their own changes anyways.

    Happy showing!
