Spring Cleaning & Decluttering It's that time of year again!

Springtime brings sunshine, rejuvenation, and excitement for the summer days ahead.

Spring is a great time to do some deep-cleaning and decluttering, especially if you’re moving. Packing your belongings is the perfect chance to get rid of those old items you no longer need.

    Decluttering tips:

When deciding what to keep, a good rule of thumb is that every item should fall into one of these categories:

    1.      Currently Useful

    • These are everyday things you use. Other than the obvious items, this could also be items you use once a week or month.

    2.      Could be Useful

    • Maybe during your packing and organizing, you found an item you forgot about. Now that you’ve found it, it’s a good idea to move it to a spot in your house where you will see it and remember to use it more.

    3.      Nostalgic

    • Humans are very nostalgic, and we like to keep certain items because of the memories or history they have. And that’s okay!

If the item does not fall into these categories easily, or you find yourself justifying how it could possibly fit into these categories, then it’s time to discard, donate, or recycle it.

    Battling the What If's

Sometimes it can be challenging to get rid of things because we think “what if I need that.” Chances are, if you haven’t needed it in the last year or two, you probably won’t. And if a situation comes up in the future where you need an item like it, you can buy a new one, which is usually safer and more sanitary if the current one is too old/out-of-date.

    Donation Tips

For any clothes/shoes donations, please ensure the items are of good quality (no stains, sweat marks, rips/tears.) If it’s something you wouldn’t wear anymore due to unpleasant qualities, best to discard it instead.

    Cleaning Tips

Start with a plan and work through one room at a time!

During the year it’s normal to keep up with regular household tasks such as cleaning the floor/carpet, countertops, dishes, and laundry. Spring cleaning is the time to add deep-cleaning tasks such as:

    • The Windows
    • Door Tracks/Frames
    • Baseboards
    • Under Appliances & Furniture
    • Inside the Fridge (throw away expired items)
    • Inside the Oven & Microwave
    • Hose out the trash bin
    • Dust Light Fixtures, House Plants, & Blinds
    • Gutters (ensure drainage is clear)
    • Garage Floor/Driveway

Take your cleaning and decluttering one step at a time and try to enjoy the process. Or maybe simply enjoy the result of a fresh home!

    Conclusion: Fresh Space, Fresh Mindset

Spring is all about new beginnings, and your home deserves that same fresh energy. By letting go of what no longer serves you and giving your space a little extra care, you can create a home that feels lighter, calmer, and ready for all the memories the warmer months will bring.
